The Losail International Circuit, situated just outside Lusail near Doha, Qatar, is one of the premier motorsport venues in the Middle East. Built in under a year by 1,000 workers at a cost of $58 million, the circuit officially opened in October 2004 with the inaugural MotoGP Grand Prix of Qatar. Originally tailored for motorcycle racing, Losail is distinguished by its smooth asphalt layout and artificial grass that helps keep desert sand off the track surface, ensuring optimal racing conditions throughout the season. The circuit gained international attention in 2008 by installing an advanced lighting system, making Losail the first venue to host night races in MotoGP and setting a new global standard for illuminated motorsport events.

With a main straight of over one kilometer, the 5.419-kilometer Losail track features 16 corners, challenging drivers and engineers with high-speed sections and technical turns. Over the years, the venue expanded its motorsport portfolio, regularly hosting prestigious events including Formula 1, WorldSBK, and the FIA World Endurance Championship. A landmark moment for Losail came in 2021, when it hosted its first Formula 1 Grand Prix under a decade-long agreement with F1. In preparation for the return of F1 in 2023, the circuit underwent extensive renovations that included upgrades to the pit and paddock facilities, a reprofiled pit lane, state-of-the-art safety features, and an expanded spectator capacity to 40,000.

Losail International Circuit stands today as a symbol of Qatar’s commitment to world-class motorsport. With its modern infrastructure, versatile layouts, and the ability to host both day and night racing, the venue continues to attract fans and competitors from around the globe, further establishing its reputation as an essential fixture on the international racing calendar.
